Tribhanga is a story about the complex dynamics of a mother-daughter relationship, involving women from three generations. Anu, a publicly-praised Bollywood actress and an acclaimed Odissi dancer, resents her mother, Nayantara. Nayantara is a venerated writer. Anu's childhood has been disturbed and disrupted. She firmly believes that all the dark days she has witnessed during her growing-up years are because of her mother and this is why she detests her. Anu also has a daughter, Masha. One day, Nayantara gets a brain stroke which lands her in a coma. This reunites the three women and Anu realizes that her mother has always unconditionally loved her. She also encounters the unwitting mistakes she has made which resulted in her daughter, Masha, being ridiculed and bearing the brunt of Anu's whimsical decisions. All this helps Anu to reconcile, forgive and bid a warm adieu to her mother during her last days.
