Award-Winning Amazon Original TV Shows & Movies

Since 2013, Amazon started distributing its original television program through Amazon Prime. Though Amazon had been involved in film production since 2008, producing The Stolen Child with 20th Century Fox. Amazon’s first original movie was Chi-Raq, in July 2015. Developed in-house through Amazon Studios, their original content slowly started picking up, with Manchester by the Sea becoming the first movie by an online streaming media service to be nominated for an Oscar. Transparent became their first show to win Golden Globe Awards.

Transparent was the first show produced by Amazon studios which won a major award, and that too a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy TV Series. The comedy series Transparent follows the world of the dysfunctional Pfefferman family with each season venturing into its uncharted territories and each territory being as powerful as the previous one. The first season kicks off with the father of the family coming out as transgender to (his) ex-wife and the three children. Transparent has comedy at its heart and still manages to be emotionally charged from start to finish.

Manchester by the sea is known for its visual flourish and mesmerizing acting of Cassey Affleck. The movie’s protagonist, Lee, is a janitor is infamous for his bad temper and unhealthy ability to pick up fights randomly. Living with a feeling of regret and profound sadness, he doesn’t prefer mingling with anyone. Lee had to shift to Manchester to take care of his nephew after his brother dies. Here, he has to deal with his sad past where he lost his children to fire. How his teen nephew tries to pull Lee out of his tragic past, and they end up sharing a beautiful & strong bond makes a heartwarming story.
