Movies for long have been an inspiration for indulgence in a new culture. We take a lot of inspiration from them when it comes to our standards- be it fashion, art, or men. How can we forget the charming Jack Dawson, who made our hearts swoon in Titanic, or Bradley Cooper in his messy hair and deep voice rockstar avatar in A Star is Born?
So we have a list of some atypical movies, that you can watch out with your girls, and swoon in peace! Fill your bucket list, we even tell you where you can watch these movies!
Starring: Zac Efron, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, Chris Warren Jr.
High school drama, musical theatre, sports, hot guys, crazy girls, and lots and lots and lots of dance. This is how one can sum up the high school musical. Troy Bolton is an athletically gifted, charming boy who gets close to Gabriella Montez. Somehow they end up being in the same school and further fall in love. They audition for the musical and suddenly the drama queen of the college finds a competition. Also, their best friends team up to tear them apart as both Troy and Gabriella also have to participate in Basketball and decathlon respectively. Thus, a plan begins. Although perfection is too surreal, who are we to complain? Zac Efron, girls.

17 Again
Starring: Matthew Perry, Zac Efron
The movie is seriously the funniest age travel movie you will ever see. In 1989, Mike O’Donnell finds out that his high school sweetheart is pregnant. He leaves his dream of becoming a professional basketball player to be a family man. 17 years later, he is in the middle of a divorce, his children want nothing to do with him. An encounter with a school janitor in his old school transforms him into his 17-year-old self. He lives with a geek/nerd/wealthy friend, Ned, posing as his son. The movie is superficially dramatic and light-hearted. You have sarcasm, you have fun, you go through emotions and come out loving Mike O’Donnell.
Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Kevin Hart
Dating back to 1996, Alex (an avatar of the game) played by Jonas, has got stuck in it. The same inquisitiveness transports all 4 teens into the world of Jumanji as they get sucked up in the video game. They get the roles of a buffed-up male archaeologist, a midget zoologist, a fat cartographer & female martial art commando. Each of these players gets 3 lives after which they die. There is another fifth character, an interesting twist in the movie. These 4 characters get on a quest to rescue a jewel – Jaguar’s Eye and call “Jumanji” to return to reality alive. The movie has Nick Jonas. Need I say more?
Boy Erased
Starring: Lucas Hedges, Joel Edgerton, Joe Alwyn, Xavier Dolan, Troye Sivan, and Russell Crowell
The movie is based on Boy Erased: A memoir. The movie begins with Jared in a gay conversion therapy program. His school life, rape as a young boy, and his confession during the repetition of the incident, he confesses that he is attracted to men. In the times when being a homosexual was considered as a disease, Jared leads a life just to “play his part.” The movie is good and deep and the boys have just made it better.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Starring: Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Paul Rudd, Nicholas Braun, Johnny Simons, Adam Hagenbuch
Based on the book by Stephen Chbosky of the same name, the movie was an instant hit with the young generation. Charlie suffers from clinical depression triggered at sensitive events. After he has been discharged from the mental health care institution, he begins his freshman year. He meets Sam and Patrick and they become good friends. All the high school drama ensues, and through flashbacks, Charlie’s dark past is revealed. The movie is both beautiful, and high spirited. Logan Lerman as Charlie, and Erza Miller as Patrick, and then there’s Paul Rudd. *dreamily fades away*
Castaway
Starring: Tom Hanks
The movie largely consists of Tom Hanks. Castaway off a plane crash, Chuck Noland, played by Hanks lands in an uninhabited island. He is trapped for four years, during which he makes friends with inanimate objects, especially a ball named Wilson. Long-time gone, his family moves on and he returns to a changed society. The performance of Tom Hanks will always uplift you.
